Days 3, 4 and 5, Mandara Mountains
After breakfast start trekking in the Mandara mountains, walking along the hills from one village to another, discovering customs and traditions of the Kapsiki whose lives have changed little over the centuries. Trek via Mabas, a traditional Kirdi village, at the edge of a cliff from where we have a panoramic view of the vast Nigerian plain of Bornou. Continue via Tourou where we visit the market (if on a Thursday) where tradition blends neatly with business and Hidé women wear calabash helmets on their heads. Early morning trek for three or four hours with short stops along the way, lunch, continue in the afternoon. Dinner and overnights camping in villages.
Day 6, Mandara – Waza
Breakfast and continue trek to the pass of Koza, a stopover at Djinglya to visit a traditional Mafa home called “sare” and the cooperative handicraft shop. Continue to Waza, dinner and overnight at the Campement de Waza Hotel.
Day 7, Waza - Maroua
After breakfast, full day safari in the Waza Park. Among the animals to watch out for are elephants, warthogs, lions, roan, cob and other antelopes, and giraffes. Waza is also home to a wide variety of birds. In the afternoon depart to Maroua. Dinner and overnight at Porte Mayo hotel.
Day 8, Maroua – Douala
Transfer to the airport and fly south to Douala. Shopping at the handicraft market, transfer to the airport for your return flight.
